1. Choose your lighting first.
Having a minimalist design complimented by stylish integrated lighting is one of the quickest ways to give your kitchen that modern ‘WOW’ factor. This can be integrated lighting into the lower sections of your kitchen, like your kickboard for a low-level ambient lighting. Ceiling spot lights are also a modern feeling, low impact way of integrating lighting into your new kitchen design.
Whichever style you go for, having your physical light fittings situated out of the way gives a clean & sophisticated feel when first entering a kitchen. With more ways than ever to integrate lighting, it can be quite the challenge. Definitely one we recommend tackling first so you’re not left fumbling around trying to squeeze lights in lastminute.

2. Integrated appliances.
Another small but hugely noticeable feature of any modern design kitchen – seamless appliance integration. We’re not saying to have nothing on show, but that wall-to-wall kitchen design with endless surface space is all the rage in modern kitchens.
This can be as simple as hiding your appliances behind styled door fronts, or opting for a more sophisticated integration whereby your kitchen houses appliances in nifty & often tech-orientated ways. This will of course come down to your design process, but hiding things such as your dish washer and integrating your cooker(s) into your overall design seamlessly and at a convenient height gives a sleek modern feel.

3. Clever storage
The last thing anyone wants in their new kitchen is cluttered worktops. Much less if you’re aiming for a high-end modern design feel. One of the top ways to combat this is by integrating smart and easy-to-use storage.
Integrated draws for common use items such as knife’s, pizza cutters and other large utensils will save invaluable worktop space from being cluttered. Another hot off the shelf product when designing modern themed kitchens are integrated bins & recycling storage. Having these mounted or situated inside of your cupboards helps keep any visible space from being cluttered with literal rubbish.

4. Gloss or Satin finish units
Besides picking your overall colour scheme, the finish of your kitchen units is arguably the biggest factor when giving your kitchen that real pop-off effect. Sleek gloss designs are all the craze for a modern feeling kitchen.
If you’re not feeling that mirror like gloss finish for fear of fingerprints or constant cleaning, then maybe the satin finish is more up your street? Achieving a similar clean light reflecting finish and overall modern feel, satin is less susceptible to fingerprints & other grubby kitchen marks.

5. Handless units
The final trick up our sleeve for achieving that modern feel might sound impractical, but thanks to modern engineering and popular demand, handless units are now more user friendly than ever before.
Mostly consisting of push-to-open mechanisms, eliminating large bulky exterior handles allow for a completely undisturbed edge-to-edge design on the face of your kitchen. This can apply to all storage units, we’re even now starting to see appliance manufacturers jump onboard with making minimalist handles on integrated appliances. Are you starting to see how this all ties together now?
The general ideas with a modern kitchen is to making it feel as decluttered as physically possible. By hiding all of your unneeded utensils and appliances away not only maximises on usable space, but gives that large open-air modern feel that so many kitchens strive for. Coupled with tasteful colours and modern kitchen cabinet finishes, you have yourself a state of the art, modern stylish kitchen layout.
