This was a kitchen for a couple in Hagley whose kitchen was looking very tired and needed a complete renovation. Although a good size the room was an awkward shape with cupboards in positions that didn’t help the flow of the kitchen; hampering the feeling of spaciousness that they wanted to try and achieve.
There were some nice features in the room that they wanted to retain including the brick fireplace and oak cabinets to the side of this.

Originally they had an oven on the right hand side that stuck out quite far into the room due to pipe work behind. This also blocked out the lovely view into their garden. Moving the new oven and tall fridge freezer onto the opposite wall; and getting rid of the old pipe work so that we could fit all the new cupboards directly onto the right hand wall, opened up the space and meant that their were no obstructions spoiling the view of the garden when you walked into the room.

They were looking for a traditional style kitchen with a contemporary feel to complement the existing features. They chose a painted oak shaker door in Alabaster with a granite worktop in Nero Assaluto.

The oven run of units featured the majority of BOSCH appliances. This prep area of the kitchen included a double oven, built in microwave, a 70/30 fridge freezer, a built under freezer and also an integrated pull out bin and plenty of storage space.

This meant that the opposite side could be designed solely around the induction hob. A set of pan drawers directly underneath the hob; with small drawers for cutlery and condiments either side made a real feature of cooking area. They chose a canopy extractor built into a wall unit. This kept the sleek lines and gave extra storage space and a painted glass splash back.

The sink run overlooking the garden featured a ceramic under mount sink and BOSCH dishwasher. Finally a curved cupboard finishes the run off as the kitchen moves into the seating area.

A Personal Journey with Matthew James

At Matthew James Kitchens, we've been at the heart of homes for generations, watching kitchen trends evolve while staying true to timeless craftsmanship. As a family-run business deeply rooted in our community, we understand that your kitchen is more than just a room—it's the soul of your home.

Have a question?

As a family-run business that values transparency, we understand the importance of timing. Every kitchen is unique, just like the families we serve. Typically, from initial design to the final polished surface, a bespoke kitchen can take anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks. But rest assured, we'll work closely with you to ensure the process fits seamlessly into your life.

This is where our expertise truly shines. There's no one-size-fits-all answer, as each home and homeowner has different needs. We take pride in sitting down with you, perhaps over a cup of tea in our showroom, to understand how you live, cook, and entertain. Whether it's a classic work triangle or a more modern zoned approach, we'll craft a layout that's as functional as it is beautiful

This is a question we get asked all the time. In our experience, clever storage solutions are the unsung heroes of a well-designed kitchen. From pull-out pantries to bespoke corner units, we have a myriad of tricks up our sleeves to ensure every inch of your kitchen works hard. After all, a clutter-free kitchen is a joy to cook in, whether you're whipping up a quick weekday dinner or hosting a grand Sunday roast for the family.
