Creating the perfect kitchen is not just about technical skill – it’s about attention to detail and understanding how families live and work in their space. At Matthew James Kitchens, this philosophy was at the heart of every decision in this Bromsgrove project, where traditional craftsmanship meets modern functionality.
The Brief
Our clients in Bromsgrove wanted a kitchen that would work as a family space and an entertaining space. The brief was for a classic and contemporary mix of elements around a solid ash Shaker design. This flexibility in finishes allowed us to work with the clients to get their perfect look.
Our solution was to design a multifunctional space with an island and banquette seating, making the most of every inch of space and creating natural areas for family and friends to gather.
Materials
The core of this kitchen is the material selection, and it’s all about the UMQ Carrara Venatino worktops. These beautiful surfaces give an instant sense of luxury and glamour to the space, a pure white base with delicate deep grey marbling that catches the eye without overwhelming the senses.
20mm thick with a precision polished finish and expertly chamfered edges, these worktops are the ultimate in kitchen engineering. Made from natural quartz blended with specially selected pigments and resins, they are heat, water and daily wear-resistant and low maintenance.
The Carrara Venatino design is versatile and bridges classic and contemporary. It works beautifully with the other elements in the space:
- Solid ash Shaker doors show off the real wood and timeless appeal
- A statement Belfast sink 595x475x220mm adds character and practicality
- The Franke Active J Pull-out chrome tap is a modern convenience and classic styling
The Detail
The project highlights our craftsmanship in the following ways:
- Drainer grooves engineered to precision and sink cut-out polished to perfection
- Custom window sill integration with co-ordinated riser
- Bespoke splashback (1000x700mm) to protect the walls and match the design

The kitchen has a selection of Neff appliances, chosen for performance and reliability:
- Neff B1ACE4HN0B Oven: A single oven with Neff’s CircoTherm® technology for perfect multi-level cooking and consistent results. Easy-clean enamel interior and intuitive controls.
- Neff C1AMG84N0B Combi Microwave: A combination microwave oven for modern cooking needs. Conventional cooking with microwave technology for time-saving convenience without compromising on quality.
- Neff T48FD23X2 80cm Induction Hob: A statement piece with precise temperature control across the 80cm width. Induction technology for fast heat, energy efficiency and easy clean. The extended width allows for multiple pans – perfect for family cooking and entertaining.
- Miro Extractor TEMPO 275740: This extractor ensures optimal air quality while cooking. Modern design to match the kitchen and ventilation through custom ducting.
- 2 x Neff K1211SE0G Built-In Fridges: Dual integrated refrigeration for plenty of fresh food storage and a seamless look. Intelligent temperature control and energy efficiency.
- Neff GI7812EE0G Larder Freezer: A large integrated freezer with No Frost technology, so no manual defrosting is required, and optimal food preservation.
- Neff N30 S153ITX02G Dishwasher: Integrated dishwasher with efficient cleaning and quiet operation. Multiple programme options and flexible loading.
Challenges
This project had some interesting challenges:
- Templating and fitting the window sill to the worktop
- Co-ordinating multiple Neff appliances to align and work
- Designing a custom ventilation solution with ducting for the Miro TEMPO extractor
- Fitting customer-supplied utility appliances to match the high-end design
The Result
The finished kitchen is a showcase of our expertise. Every detail, from the polished stone to the chosen appliances, works together to create a space that looks and works beautifully. The integrated waste and storage planning means the kitchen performs as well as it looks.
The design process led us to an amazing solution: custom banquette seating that not only has hidden storage for occasional items but also flexible seating for social occasions. In the kitchen itself we raised the Neff oven and combi microwave to allow for integrated refrigeration beneath – a thoughtful touch that keeps fresh ingredients at your fingertips while cooking. The utility room wasn’t an afterthought; we designed bespoke storage around the existing boiler so the room still functions and the kitchen still looks refined.
