At Matthew James Kitchens, we create spaces that reflect your personality and lifestyle.

We recently completed a grand extension designed by the talented architects at Intervention Architecture, with whom we’ve worked on many projects.

The design was a harmonious blend of modern luxury and timeless comfort, envisaging an inviting kitchen and formulating the overarching ethos of the room. Catering to intricate architectural drawings, we breathed life into what once were plans etched on paper.

This project was by no means a simple undertaking. Boasting high ceilings and varying levels, incorporating an efficient office area and an elegant media wall, and providing luxurious window seating, every element was designed with purpose. A pantry adorned with open shelving added that classic touch and increased functionality.

In our quest to create a rich tapestry of design, the principal connecting element was a floating shelf. Augmented with LED lighting, it served as the room’s unifying backbone, running the full room’s length and weaving its way across different levels – over the wainy edge office furniture, climbing to the higher kitchen level, and stretching above the sink run of units.

This dynamic feature is the kitchen’s pulse, aligning perfectly to the top of the premium Neff ovens. Echoing the same, bespoke in-frame doors bathed in Little Greene’s Obsidian Green added flair above the ovens, balancing the depth of the floating shelf.

Our team ensured that these, despite their elevated placement, neatly aligned with the top of the worktops, representing our attention to aesthetic coherence.

While maintaining its unique specifications, the kitchen design elegantly combined custom and standard-sized furniture. At its very top, standard-sized doors anchored the entrance into the hallway. The door, clad in the same Obsidian Green, effortlessly melted into the kitchen landscape.

Building around various elevations, an RSJ, and a doorway, the tall bank of units were a marvel of creativity. With a faux larder door leading to a hidden pantry packed with bespoke open shelving units, the kitchen seamlessly accommodated a freestanding American fridge and a Dunavox wine cooler.

The sink run of units, equipped with a state-of-the-art Quooker boiling tap, showcased our commitment to symmetry, complemented by a pull-out bin, a corner pull-out, and a Neff dishwasher.

The crowning glory was the kitchen island, featuring a Neff flex zone hob and a ceiling extractor above. An assortment of drawers with traditional dovetail joinery and open units provided an ideal place for cherished mementos and literature.

An industrial touch was added with the Neolith 20mm worktop, an aesthetic elevated further by the exposed RSJ’s in the ceiling. We finalized the island with a bespoke solid oak breakfast bar, nestled near custom seating with concealed storage, reflecting our dedication to both form and function.

Descending onto the lower level, we introduced unmatched oak veneer floating cabinetry. Push-to-open slab doors stained to match the oak breakfast bar, sat alongside an office furniture piece of oak boasting a wainy edge and an oak veneer top on the media wall.

The utility area mirrored the kitchen’s luxury with Neolith worktops and intricate in-frame furniture, wrapped in Farrow and Ball Green Smoke paint. This beautifully moulded space also incorporated underfloor heating manifold and a boiler.

While not commissioned by us, an area was also elegantly adapted into a shower area for the homeowner’s beloved dog.

Every project is a testament to our love for the local community, our dedication to a family-run service, and the tenacity to offer only the best. This distinguished renovation reflects not just our craftsmanship, but also our capacity to weave stories through kitchen design.

A Personal Journey with Matthew James

At Matthew James Kitchens, we've been at the heart of homes for generations, watching kitchen trends evolve while staying true to timeless craftsmanship. As a family-run business deeply rooted in our community, we understand that your kitchen is more than just a room—it's the soul of your home.

Have a question?

As a family-run business that values transparency, we understand the importance of timing. Every kitchen is unique, just like the families we serve. Typically, from initial design to the final polished surface, a bespoke kitchen can take anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks. But rest assured, we'll work closely with you to ensure the process fits seamlessly into your life.

This is where our expertise truly shines. There's no one-size-fits-all answer, as each home and homeowner has different needs. We take pride in sitting down with you, perhaps over a cup of tea in our showroom, to understand how you live, cook, and entertain. Whether it's a classic work triangle or a more modern zoned approach, we'll craft a layout that's as functional as it is beautiful

This is a question we get asked all the time. In our experience, clever storage solutions are the unsung heroes of a well-designed kitchen. From pull-out pantries to bespoke corner units, we have a myriad of tricks up our sleeves to ensure every inch of your kitchen works hard. After all, a clutter-free kitchen is a joy to cook in, whether you're whipping up a quick weekday dinner or hosting a grand Sunday roast for the family.
